Test whether one video is the problem

When playback fails, the first useful question is whether one item is broken or whether playback is failing everywhere.

Use this quick test before sending a support request.

Compare playback

  1. Open the video that fails.
  2. Note what happens when you press play.
  3. Try a different video from the same library.
  4. Try a video from another library if you have one.
  5. Open the original item in Jellyfin Web and test it there.

What the result means

Result What it usually means
Only one video fails in Phyn The file, codec, subtitle track, or transcode path may be the issue.
The same video fails in Jellyfin Web Check the server, file, or Jellyfin library setup.
Every video fails in Phyn Check server connection, login state, network, and app setup.
Lower quality works The server or network may be struggling with the original stream.

Next step

If one item is the issue, open Media Info for that item and send the codec details to support.
