Sign in with QuickConnect

QuickConnect lets you sign in to Phyn by approving a short code from Jellyfin Web or another Jellyfin client. It is useful when you are setting up Phyn on a TV, shared device, or any device where typing a password is inconvenient.

QuickConnect is controlled by your Jellyfin server. Phyn can show the QuickConnect button only when the selected server says QuickConnect is available.

Server requirement: If you do not see Login with QuickConnect, your Jellyfin server may have QuickConnect disabled, unavailable, or unsupported for that login session. Use username and password, or ask the server administrator to enable QuickConnect.

Before you start

You need:

  • Phyn connected to the correct Jellyfin server.
  • Access to a browser or another Jellyfin client where you can already sign in.
  • Permission to use QuickConnect on that Jellyfin server.
  • Enough time to approve the code before it expires.

If you are not sure which server Phyn is using, return to the login screen and check whether you need to select Change server first.

Start QuickConnect in Phyn

  1. Open Phyn.
  2. Add or select your Jellyfin server.
  3. On the login screen, select Login with QuickConnect.
  4. Keep the QuickConnect screen open in Phyn.

Phyn shows instructions, the server address, a QR code, and a short code. The app checks the server every few seconds while it waits for approval.

Approve the code in Jellyfin

  1. Open the server address shown in Phyn, or scan the QR code if that is easier.
  2. Sign in to Jellyfin Web if you are not already signed in.
  3. Open the profile menu in the upper-right corner.
  4. Select QuickConnect.
  5. Enter the code shown in Phyn.
  6. Select Authorize.

After Jellyfin approves the request, Phyn signs in automatically and opens your Jellyfin home screen.

Security check: Only authorize a QuickConnect code that you started yourself. If you see an unexpected QuickConnect request, cancel it.

If the code expires or fails

If Phyn says the QuickConnect request could not be completed, return to the login screen and try again. A code can fail when it expires, when the server disables QuickConnect during the request, or when the device loses access to the server.

Try this sequence:

  1. Confirm the same Jellyfin server opens in a browser.
  2. Start a fresh QuickConnect request in Phyn.
  3. Approve the new code promptly in Jellyfin Web.
  4. If it still fails, use username and password for this login.

When to use username and password instead

Use normal login if:

  • Your server does not show QuickConnect in Jellyfin Web.
  • Login with QuickConnect is disabled or missing in Phyn.
  • You cannot access a browser or another signed-in Jellyfin client.
  • Your server administrator has disabled QuickConnect for security reasons.

Signing in with username and password uses your Jellyfin account directly and works even when QuickConnect is not available.
