Connect Phyn to your Jellyfin server
Add your Jellyfin server to Phyn, sign in, and start using your libraries from your phone, tablet, or desktop.
Before you start
You need:
- A Jellyfin server that is already set up.
- The Jellyfin server address.
- Your Jellyfin username and password, or permission to use QuickConnect if your server supports it.
Your server address should include the protocol, for example:
http://192.168.1.20:8096https://jellyfin.example.com
If you are connecting from home, use the address that works on your home network. If you are connecting away from home, use the external address you normally use in a browser.
Tip: Use the same address that opens Jellyfin in a browser on this device. If the browser cannot reach Jellyfin, Phyn will not be able to reach it either.
Open Add server
There are two common ways to reach the Add server screen.
If this is your first server
- Open Phyn.
- If there is no saved server on the device, Phyn opens
Add serverautomatically. - Continue with the steps in
Add the server.
If you are already signed in
Use this path when Phyn is already connected to a server and you want to add or switch to another one.
- Open the account menu.
- Select
Logout. - On the login screen, select
Change server. - Select
Add server. - Continue with the steps in
Add the server.
Good to know: Logging out signs you out of the current Jellyfin session. It does not remove the saved server from Phyn.
Add the server
- Enter your
Jellyfin server URL. - If Phyn discovers Jellyfin servers on your network, you can select the discovered server instead of typing the address manually.
- If you also use a different address away from home, enter it in
External server URL. - Select
Connect.
Phyn checks the server address and saves the server when it can reach Jellyfin.
Use Jellyfin server URL for the address that works where you are setting up Phyn. Use External server URL only when your server also has a separate remote address, such as a reverse-proxy or VPN address.
Sign in with username and password
- On the login screen, enter your Jellyfin
Username. - Enter your Jellyfin
Password. - Leave
Remember meenabled if you want Phyn to remember the username on this device. - Select
Login.
After login, Phyn opens your home screen and loads the libraries available to your Jellyfin user.
Sign in with QuickConnect
If your Jellyfin server supports QuickConnect, Phyn may show Login with QuickConnect on the login screen.
- Select
Login with QuickConnect. - Follow the on-screen QuickConnect instructions in Phyn.
- Open Jellyfin in a browser or another signed-in Jellyfin client.
- Go to the Jellyfin QuickConnect page.
- Enter the code shown in Phyn.
- Approve the request.
Phyn signs in after Jellyfin approves the QuickConnect request.
When the connection and login are successful, Phyn shows your Jellyfin home screen and libraries. You can browse media, play items, and adjust server or app settings from the account menu.
If Phyn cannot find your server
If this happens, confirm the address works in a browser on the same device. Then check that:
- The address starts with
http://orhttps://. - The port is correct. Many Jellyfin servers use
8096for HTTP. - Jellyfin is running.
- Your phone or computer is on the same network if you are using a local address.
- Your VPN, firewall, reverse proxy, or DNS setup allows the device to reach the server.
If Phyn reports that the server version is too low, update Jellyfin and try again.
If Phyn says the server setup wizard is not complete, open Jellyfin Web as an admin and finish the Jellyfin setup wizard before connecting with Phyn.
If sign-in fails
If this happens, check the username and password by signing in to Jellyfin Web. If Jellyfin Web works but Phyn does not, try again after confirming you selected the correct server in Phyn.
If QuickConnect does not work, confirm that QuickConnect is enabled on your Jellyfin server and that you approve the request before the code expires.
