What is Phyn?
Phyn is a native client app for Jellyfin. It lets you connect to your own Jellyfin server and use your media library from your phone, tablet, desktop, or Meta Quest headset.
Phyn does not include a Jellyfin server or provide media by itself. You bring the Jellyfin server, libraries, and account. Phyn gives you a polished app experience for browsing, playback, downloads, reading, integrations, and notifications where supported.
Important: Phyn is pronounced like "fin" and is built for Jellyfin users. You need access to a Jellyfin server before the app can show your movies, shows, music, books, or Live TV.
What you can do with Phyn
Depending on your server, account permissions, device, and Phyn Premium status, you can use Phyn to:
- Watch movies and TV shows from your Jellyfin library.
- Use immersive playback and watch supported 3D videos on Meta Quest.
- Listen to music with native background playback.
- Browse supported eBooks and reading libraries.
- Download supported media for offline playback.
- Cast playback with AirPlay or Google Cast on supported devices.
- Use Live TV and the program guide when your Jellyfin server is configured for Live TV.
- Connect supported integrations such as Jellyseerr.
- Receive supported Jellyfin notifications after webhook setup.
What you need
Before using Phyn, you need:
- The Phyn app installed on a supported device.
- A Jellyfin server that is already set up.
- The server address, such as
https://jellyfin.example.comorhttp://192.168.1.20:8096. - A Jellyfin username and password, or QuickConnect if your server supports it.
If you do not run the Jellyfin server yourself, ask your server administrator for the server address and login details.
Supported platforms
Phyn is available for iOS, Android, macOS, and Meta Quest. Platform support can affect which operating-system features are available, such as push notifications, background playback, casting, local network permission, and offline storage behavior.
On Meta Quest, you can browse in panel mode or select Enter mixed reality for immersive playback. Supported 3D display formats include full and half side-by-side (FSBS/HSBS) and full and half top-and-bottom (FTAB/HTAB). A 3D video file is required; selecting a 3D format does not convert 2D content.
Setup tip: Start by connecting Phyn to your Jellyfin server. After you can sign in and see your libraries, move on to downloads, playback settings, integrations, and notifications.
